For generations, residents and visitors have enjoyed the views Niagara Falls has to offer. A new observation wheel would jeopardize that. And if obstructing the view wasn’t bad enough, it would threaten the quality of our public parklands as well.

Local residents, businesses and community organizers deserve to have a say in how our city is developed. If we make our voices heard, we come out as a stronger, more unified community that demands a say on the future of our parks.

The facts
49-year lease
The proposed wheel falls under a 49-year lease. That means the wheel, and its consequences, are likely to outlast most people involved with its proposal in the first place. Once public parkland is commercialized, we risk never getting it back. As a city, we deserve more control.
Environmental mandate
The Niagara Parks Commission has an obligation to protect the parkland rather than prioritize revenue. That means keeping it open, accessible, and clean. A park is for everyone. An observation wheel is for those willing to pay.
Skyline
Our businesses are revered for the views they offer. A new observation wheel won’t just be an eyesore while it’s being constructed—it will obscure the view once it’s completed as well. This will complicate future development, putting jobs and investment at risk.
